1 dead, 3 injured following shooting at Washington state high school

ROCKFORD, Wash. (AP): Fire officials are reporting 1 person is dead, and 3 are injured following a reported school shooting in Washington state.

Shortly after 11:00 am, Spokane public schools posted on Twitter that all schools in the district are "being placed into modified lockdown as a precautionary measure." The shooting was reported at Freeman High School in Rockford.

Annie Baxter, whose two daughters attend class there, says children were running into the buildings when she pulled up to the school about 10:15 am. Multiple ambulances and a Lifeflight helicopter were dispatched to the high school, which lies south of Spokane, Washington.

Brian Schaeffer of the Spokane Fire Department reports the threat “has been eliminated” and the schools are no longer on lockdown. The injured have been taken to a hospital following the reported shooting.
