MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins open a 3-game series against the Boston Red Sox tonight at home. The Twins enter the game having lost 2 of their last three games, but they took three games from the Red Sox earlier this month. Boston has won two straight after dropping three in a row.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom has undergone sports hernia surgery. The Wild announced that Backstrom's operation went as planned yesterday morning in Philadelphia. The 35-year-old Backstrom aggravated the injury before Game 1 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at Chicago.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Jacki Gemelos is working for a spot in the WNBA after a series of knee injuries during her college career at USC. The Minnesota Lynx drafted Gemelos in the third round last season, but she wasn't ready to play. Gemelos is now in training camp, trying to earn a spot on Minnesota's roster.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The San Antonio Spurs advanced to the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Golden State Warriors 94-82 in Game 6 last night.
