MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins open a 3-game series at home tonight against the Chicago White Sox. Mike Pelfrey will take the mound for the Twins, and the White Sox will start right-hander Dylan Axelrod. Minnesota has lost 3 of its last four games.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Wild have re-signed defenseman Marco Scandella to a 2-year contract. The team announced the deal yesterday. Scandella was eligible to be a restricted free agent, but the Wild locked the 23-year-old before he could hit the market.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Former Gophers standout Trevor Mbakwe (im-BAHK'-way) worked out yesterday for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Mbakwe has been widely projected as a second-round pick, where the Timberwolves have two selections. The NBA draft is June 27th.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Max Knutson allowed just four hits yesterday as Mounds View shut out Rocori of Cold Spring 8-0 for the Class 3A state championship at Target Field. Knutson struck out nine batters and yielded just one walk. In earlier games, Kasson-Mantorville won the Class 2A state championship and BOLD claimed the Class 1A title.
