
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The fire chief in Pierre plans to retire. Fifty-1-year-old Bill Alexander says he'll step down from the position on November 1st. Alexander has been involved in firefighting for 31 years, and he's been Pierre's fire chief for eight years.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A reported robbery, assault and shoplifting incident at a Sioux Falls Walmart led to a chase that culminated with authorities arresting two people. Police say the suspects fled from the store when officers arrived shortly after midnight. Police say three children in the suspects' van were not hurt.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The Sioux Falls City Council is taking $8 million from the city's reserve fund to cover most of the cleanup cost from a 3-day snow and ice storm in April. Reimbursements from the Federal Emergency Management Agency could replace much of that amount, but city officials are still debating whether to accept federal help. Sioux Falls has about $40 million in its reserve fund.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Governor Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags at the Capitol lowered to half-staff today for the funeral of former state legislator Stanley Johnson. He died Saturday at the age of 88. Johnson served in the House of Representatives from 1968 to 1977.
